From a young age our founder, Chris Sciacca was captivated by the beauty and complexity of gemstones. That fascination became the foundation of Gemora, inspired by early exposure to sapphire collectors and family friends who were fine jewelers in Italy. Drawn deeper into the craft, he pursued formal training at the Gemological Institute of America in Bangkok, Thailand, where he became fully immersed in the world of gemology. There, Chris realized there was no other path he could be as passionate about, leading him to dedicate over 15 years to the fine jewelry industry as a graduate gemologist, honing his expertise through study, sourcing, and hands-on craftsmanship.

Following his education, Chris partnered with a small group of classmates to travel throughout Eastern Africa, sourcing some of the world’s most exceptional gemstones and bringing them to Western markets, where they were acquired by high jewelry maisons and transformed into extraordinary creations. As his international clientele grew, so did his passion for educating clients on the rarity and significance of gemstones. Chris’ time working in a high jewelry maison in Manhattan further shaped Gemora’s philosophy—creating meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces through close collaboration and trust. When the opportunity arose to open his own space, Jersey City—his home—felt like the perfect place to bring Gemora to life.
